ZING KING Radiator Installation & User Guide
Thank you for choosing a ZING KING High-Performance Radiator. To ensure safe installation and optimal cooling performance, please read this guide thoroughly before starting. This procedure is recommended for users with basic mechanical knowledge or professional technicians.
⚠️ SAFETY WARNINGS
-
The engine must be completely cool before starting. Allow at least 2–3 hours after driving.
-
NEVER remove the radiator cap when the engine is hot – risk of severe burns from scalding coolant.
-
Keep hands, clothing, and tools away from fans and moving belts.
-
Coolant is toxic. Keep away from children and pets. Dispose of used coolant properly.
🔧 Tools & Materials Needed
-
Socket wrench set and ratchet
-
Pliers or flathead screwdriver
-
Drain pan
-
Safety gloves (chemical-resistant) and safety glasses
-
Floor jack and jack stands
-
Wheel chocks
-
Clean rags or shop towels
-
(Recommended) Cooling system vacuum fill tool (helps remove air pockets)
-
(If equipped) Flare nut wrench for automatic transmission cooler lines
📦 Preparation
-
Park the vehicle on a level surface, engage the parking brake, and place wheel chocks behind the rear tires.
-
Put on safety gloves and glasses.
-
Safely lift the front of the vehicle using a floor jack and secure it on jack stands. Never work under a vehicle supported only by a jack.
-
Allow the engine to cool completely. Verify by touching the upper radiator hose – it should be cool to the touch.
🔄 Removing the Old Radiator
-
Position the drain pan under the radiator. Open the drain petcock (or carefully remove the lower radiator hose) to drain all coolant.
-
Loosen the clamps on the upper and lower radiator hoses using pliers or a screwdriver. Gently twist and pull the hoses off the radiator necks.
-
Disconnect the overflow reservoir hose using the same method.
-
Unplug the electrical connector for the cooling fan(s). Remove the fan/shroud assembly using your socket set.
-
If your vehicle has automatic transmission cooler lines connected to the radiator, use a flare nut wrench to disconnect them carefully.
-
Remove the radiator mounting bolts (top and bottom). Carefully lift the radiator straight up and out of the vehicle.
✅ Installing the New ZING KING Radiator
-
Position the new radiator into the core support, aligning all mounting tabs. Reinstall and tighten the mounting bolts securely (avoid overtightening).
-
Reconnect the transmission cooler lines (if equipped), using new O-rings if provided. Tighten with the flare nut wrench.
-
Slide the upper, lower, and reservoir hoses onto the new radiator necks. Secure each hose with its clamp.
-
Reinstall the cooling fan assembly and reconnect the electrical plug until it clicks into place.
-
Fill the radiator and the overflow reservoir with the correct type of coolant, mixed to a 50/50 ratio with distilled water. Do not overfill.
-
(Recommended) Use a cooling system vacuum fill tool to purge air from the system. If not available, proceed with manual bleeding.
-
Start the engine with the vehicle's heater set to MAX heat and fan speed on high. Let it run for 10–15 minutes until the thermostat opens and coolant circulates.
-
Once the engine has cooled down again, check and top off the coolant level in the radiator and reservoir as needed.
-
Carefully lower the vehicle, remove the jack stands, and take a short test drive. Inspect all connections for any signs of leakage.
📋 Post-Installation Checklist
-
First 3 Drives: Monitor the temperature gauge closely. It should remain stable in the normal operating range.
-
Within 24 Hours: With the engine cold, recheck the coolant level and top off if slightly low (a minor drop is normal as remaining air escapes). Also, check beneath the vehicle for any new coolant spots on the ground.
-
Listen for any unusual noises from the cooling fan or water pump during operation.
🧰 Maintenance Tips
-
Inspect coolant hoses and fluid level every 6 months or 7,500 miles.
-
Avoid using a high-pressure washer directly on the radiator fins, as this can bend them and reduce cooling efficiency.
-
Flush and replace the coolant according to your vehicle manufacturer’s schedule (typically every 30,000–60,000 miles).
❓ Troubleshooting / Common Issues
Q1: Engine overheats shortly after installation?
Likely Cause: Air trapped in the cooling system.
Solution: Perform a proper bleeding procedure (run engine with heater on MAX until thermostat opens).
Q2: Coolant leaking from hose connections?
Check if all hose clamps are fully tightened.
Inspect O-rings on transmission cooler lines for cracks or misalignment.
